●letter of cooperation
IJFM(Int’l Journal of Frontier Missions)

Rev. Sung-Yong Kim, Dr. Sung-Sam Kang, Rev. Paul Han and other distinguished Korean partners in the advance of Christ’s kingdom:
Greetings in the matchless name of Christ! On behalf of the International Society for Frontier Missiology (ISFM) and its official journal, the International Journal of Frontier Missions (IJFM), it is our honor and privilege to cooperate with The Mission Times (MT), Korea World Missions Association (KWMA), and the Korea Frontier Missions Network (KFMN) as you seek to catalyze frontier thinking within the Korean missions community. Sensing God’s hand on your efforts, we rejoice in the birth of a Korean chapter of our society and its official journal, the Korean Journal of Frontier Missions.
As you know, most Christian effort and resources continue to be marshaled for the blessing of the Church where it already is. Since 1986, our particular passion has been to stimulate an international scholarly fellowship of thinking and action on behalf of the places, peoples and other vital concerns where the mission enterprise has yet to succeed. While we thank God for other mission publications and societies that are more general in scope, the ISFM and IJFM are relentlessly focused on unconquered frontiers of mission. We fully expect that our new sister society and journal will be tailored to meet the needs of their unique Korean constituency and context; this is as it should be. Our only desire is that you would adopt and seek vigilantly to maintain a frontier focus.
Per this agreement, we are pleased to make available for translation the last twenty years of articles published in the IJFM(currently over 500 in all), as well as any future articles, many written by some of the most distinguished mission scholars and practitioners in recent history. (In a few cases, we may need to secure additional permissions for articles reprinted in the IJFM from other sources; we would be pleased to seek these permissions for you should the need arise.)
As peers in this effort, we hope to share with our English-reading audience those original KJFM articles that may fit our editorial needs. While it would be unreasonable to expect you to translate all of your articles into English, having abstracts(and in some cases, the full text) of certain KJFM articles would be highly beneficial to us and our readers.
The explosive growth of the faith among the Korean people has been nothing less than spectacular; your zeal and obedience are an example to all. As the world’s second largest missionary sending base, the Korean contribution to the global mission cause will leave its mark in the years ahead. The potential for great blessing to the world’s still neglected peoples is enormous; we enthusiastically welcome your initiative.
By your bold efforts, the International Society for Frontier Missiology and the International Journal of Frontier Missions are now truly international for the very first time. We pray that your example will “provoke to jealousy” others of various cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

그리스도 왕국의 확장을 위하여 동역자 되시는 김성용 목사님, 강승삼 박사님, 한정국 목사님 그리고 한국의 여러 동역자들께, 그 무엇과도 비교할 수 없는 그리스도의 이름으로 문안드립니다. 한국의 선교계에 전방개척선교를 촉진하는 데에 선교타임즈사(MT), 한국세계선교협의회(KWMA) 및 한국전방개척선교네트웍 (KFMN)과 같이 동역하게 된 것에 대하여 국제전방개척선교학회 (International Society for Frontier Missiology: ISFM)와 그 공식 학회지인 국제전방개척선교저널(the International Journal of Frontier Missions: IJFM)을 대신하여 영광이요 또한 특권임을 말씀드립니다. 여러분들의 수고에 하나님께서 함께 하심을 느끼면서 한국에 한국전방개척선교저널이라는 저희 공식회지의 새로운 장을 탄생시킨 데에 대하여 진심으로 기뻐마지 않습니다.
여러분들도 아시다시피, 대부분 크리스천들의 수고와 자원들이 그곳에 이미 교회가 있는 지역의 교회 가운데에 우선적으로 배당되는 축복으로서 지속되어 왔습니다. 그러나 저희는 1980년도 이후로 아직 선교계가 성공을 보지 못한 지역들이나 종족들 그리고 결정적인 관심거리들에 대하여 사고하고 행동할 수 있는 국제적인 학회를 고무시키는 데에 특별한 정열을 기울여 왔습니다. 보다 일반적인 선교의 국면들을 다루는 선교 발간이나 학회들에 대하여도 하나님께 감사드립니다만, ISFM과 IJFM은 아직 정복되지 못한 선교의 전방개척 분야에만 오로지 그 초점을 맞추어 왔습니다. 진정 바라는 것은 우리의 이 새로운 자매학회와 저널이 자신들의 고유한 한국인 고객들과 상황에 맞추어 재단되는 것이며, 실제로 그렇게 되어야 한다고 생각합니다. 단지 바라는 것이 있다면, 전방개척에 그 지속적인 초점을 두기 위하여 부단히 적응해 나가고 찾아내는 것입니다.
이 합의서를 통하여 IJFM에서 최근 선교 역사의 가장 저명한 선교계 학자들이나 실천가들이 기록한 지난 20여 년간 발행된 저널(현재 모두 500호 이상)의 논문들뿐만 아니라 앞으로 발행될 어떤 논문들도 번역하여 사용하는 것에 대하여 기쁘게 생각합니다.(어떤 경우에 있어서는, IJFM의 논문이 다른 곳에서 가져온 것일 수 있기 때문에 추가적인 허락을 받아야 하는데, 여러분의 필요에 따라 그 허락을 기꺼이 받도록 할 것입니다.)
이 사역의 동료로서 바라는 것은, 우리의 편집 목적에 적합하다고 생각될 때에는 KJFM 고유의 논문들을 영어 독자들과도 나눌 수 있기를 바랍니다. 여러분들의 모든 논문을 영어로 번역하여 싣는 것은 비합리적이겠지만, 어떤 KJFM의 논문들에 대하여서는 영어 요약문(경우에 따라서는 전체 논문도)을 실어 준다면 우리와 우리 독자들에게 매우 유익할 것입니다.
한국 사람들의 폭발적인 믿음의 성장은 실로 엄청난 것이며, 여러분들의 그 열정과 헌신은 모두에게 본이 될 것입니다. 세계 제 2위의 선교사 파송국가로서 전 세계 선교에 대한 한국의 공헌은 선교의 이정표를 새롭게 할 것입니다. 전 세계의 아직도 소외된 사람들이 받을 엄청난 축복에 대한 잠재성은 실로 거대합니다. 이 부분에 여러분들의 주도권이 행사되기를 진심으로 바라는 바입니다.
여러분들의 대담한 수고에 의하여 ISFM과 IJFM은 이제 처음으로 국제화되기에 이르렀습니다. 기도하는 것은 여러분의 예가 다른 문화나 언어권에 (거룩한) 질투심을 유발하는 것입니다.
