세계선교와 세계평화에 관한 제3세계 선언

하나님의 은혜로 아프리카와 남아메리카 대륙과 그곳 대표들로 더불어 선교의 제휴를 맺은 아시아선교의 대표들로서, 1986년 10월6일-12일까지 캘리포니아 파사데나(Pasadena)에서 열린 3년마다 열리는 아시아 선교협회(the Asia Missions Association)제4차 회의에 참가한 우리 참석자들은 제3세계의 우리 동료 그리스도인들을 향한 호소와 열망으로 다음을 채택한다 :
우리는 이 회의에서 다시 한 번 우리 구주 탄생시의 천사들의 선포 ("땅위에는 사람들 사이에 평화")(2)에 비추어 우리의 삶과 사역을 반성했다. 그러므로 여기서 우리는 우리의 세계선교와 세계평화에 관한 새로워진 언명을 선포한다.

우리는 땅위에서 하나님의 뜻이 온전히 이루어질 때만이 보편적 평화가 가능하다고 생각한다. 그러므로 우리는 세계선교의 목표는 그리스도안에서 모든 민족의 화해추구여야 한다고 단언한다. 왜냐하면 "그는 중간에 막힌 담을 허신 우리의 화평"(3)이시기 때문이다.

복음은 언제나 복된 소식인데, 하나님은 그것을 통해 땅위의 모든 민족들이 당신의 은혜와 주권을 접하기를 원하신다. 그러므로 우리는 "더이상 자신을 위해 살지 않고 우리를 대신하여 죽었다가 다시 사신 그분을 위해 살아야"(4)한다. 이것이 우리가 땅위에서 평화를 추구할 수 있는 방법이다. 만일 세계각처의 그리스도인들이 이 至高한 소명에 헌신치 않으면 우리 시대에 세계가 지상평화의 더 심한 타락을 볼 것이 당연하다.

세계는 기독교선교가 희망 없는 인류에게 참 소망을 보여주기를 기다리고 있다. 그것은 기독교선교가 어둠의 세력들에 의해 사로잡혀 있는 세상을 참된 자유로 인도해 줄 것을 고대한다. 그것은 기독교선교가 공허하고 혼란한 오늘날의 사람들의 마음에 길과 진리를 보여주기를 고대한다. 그것은 기독교선교가 죽어 가는 인간성에 참 생명의 희망을 주기를 고대한다. 세계는 기독교선교가 안식이 없고 두려움이 가득한 사회에 참 평화를 가져다주기를 기다리고 있다.

이러한 이유들로 인해 우리는 제3세계선교 위원회(a Commission of Third World Missions)를 조직하고, 제3세계선교 발전을 위한 상호기금(a Mutual Fund for Third World Mission Advance)을 조성하며 세계 6대륙에서 참석한 기독교선교 지도자들을 대표하여 세계그리스도인 평화위원회(a Peace Commission of World Christians)를 만들자는 아시아 선교협회(the Asia Missions Association)실행위원회의 제안을 기뻐한다.

예수 그리스도만이 이 세상에 평화를 준다. 그는 우리의 평화이다. 어느 날, 실제로 나라들이 "다시는 전쟁을 연습하지 않을 것이다"(5) 그리고 지상에 평화가 올 것이다. 지상의 이 평화의 통치는 "평화의 왕"(6)이신 그리스도의 재림을 통해서만 "열방의 왕"(7)이신 하나님과 더불어 이루어질 것이다.

그러므로 우리는 그리스도께서 만드시고 그를 위해 죽으신 세계의 모든 영역에 거하는 그 몸의 일부 대표자들로서 모든 피조물이 그분의 구원의 소식을 듣고 그분의 뜻과 다시 오실 때까지 맡기신 사명을 이룰 때까지 모든 필요한 희생을 해 가며 모든 나라에 그분의 복음을 전파한다는 우리의 서약을 재다짐한다.

THIRD WORLD DECLARATION ON WORLD MISSION AND WORLD PEACE

We, the participants of the Fourth Triennial Convention of the Asia Missions Association at Pasadena. California held from October 6-12, 1986, as representatives of the Asian missions, which by the Lord's grace, have built their partnership in mission in the African and South American continents, along with the delegates from the above continents, make the following as our appeal and aspiration to our fellow Christians in the Third World :
We have once again, at this Convention examined our lives and ministry in the light of the angelic proclamation at the birth of our Savior, "peace on earth among men,"(1)and of the Lord's prayer, "Thy will be done on earth," (2) and therefore hereby declare our renewed commitment to World Mission and World Peace.

We understand that only when God's will is fully done on earth, there will be universal peace. We, therefore, affirm that the goal of World Mission should be to seek reconciliation of all the people in Christ, for "He is our peace, who has broken down the middle wall of partition."(3)

The Gospel has always been the good news, by which God wants all the peoples of the earth, to be confronted with His grace and authority. We, therefore, must "no longer live unto ourselves but unto Him, who dicd for us and rose again."(4) This is the way by which we can seek peace on earth. If Christians around the world do not engage in this highest calling, the world may well see a further deterioration of peace on earth, in our time.

The world waits for Christian mission to show true hope to a hopeless mankind It looks to Christian missions to lead the world, held captive by the powers of darkness, into true liberty. It looks to Christian missions to show the way and the truth, to the empty and confused hearts of today's man. It looks to Christian missions to give the hope of true peace to a restless and fearful society.

For these reasons, we rejoice at the proposals of the Executive Committee of the Asia Missions Association, to organize a Commission of Third World Missions, to establish a Mutual Fund for Third. World Mission Advance and to form a Peace Commission of World Christians on behalf of the participating Christian mission leaders from the six continents of the world.

Jesus Christ alone offers peace for this world. He is our peace. One day, indeed the nations shall "learn war no more"(5)and peace on earth will come. This reign of peace on earth will come only through the return of Christ, the Prince of peace,"(6)and with God as the "King of Nations."(7)

We, therefore, as some representatives in the body of Christ resident in all sectors of the world, which He created and for which He died, reaffirm our commitment to the spread of His gospel, in every nation, making all necessary sacrifices, until every creature has heard of His salvation and to the fulfilling of His will and commission until His return.
